stupid rules

The above picture is copied from The Star newspaper.

According to the article, the Kota Baru Municipal Council (MPKB) has announced that it would “no longer tolerate indecent dressing” by women, both Muslim and non-Muslim. Tight-fitting tops and pants are not allowed, even for non-Muslim. It is also written that eye-popping outfit invited undesirable attention. Those who don’t obey the new ruling would be fined up to RM 500.

Wow! What kind of rule or law is that? Is this some kind of discrimination to all the woman in the country? This is just not fair. How about those males who wear inappropriately? There are also some guys out there wearing tight outfits. It’s just not right to point your fingers to women only. If they want to have this new ruling enforced, I think the new rule should be imposed to men as well. The point I want to emphasize here is everyone has the freedom to wear whatever they want. I strongly believe that everyone knows what is defined as “proper attire”.

How tight is the “tight” forbidden by the MPKB? If pants are not allowed, what do they think we should wear? Baju kurung or just simply take a piece of cloth and wrap your body with it? If this is the theory of how we should dress appropriately, it also means that jeans are totally not allowed. C’mon, all of these are called casual wear. Do they know that sometimes we need to dress casually too?

Why does the enforcement always enforced or ‘create’ some new rules that seem so ridiculous and absurd? I believe there are a lot of snatch theft and robbery cases out there enough to keep them busy already. Why don’t they just concentrate more on improving the qualities of our environment and child care centre and also the cleanliness of public toilets? Life is not easy for women and why do they keep on enforcing some useless rules that would bring hassle to women’s life?

Please la, do something useful and meaningful for the country.
