boss is coming back!

Today is Friday and in a blink of eyes, I almost come to the end of the 3^rd week of my internship. Time flies, like superman. Can’t believe that I have another 6 weeks here. Should I be happy or sad??? Well, I guess I’ll answer this question on the last day of my internship…

Yay! I’m going back to johor today. Am going to spend my weekend at my comfy home. I got sick last weekend and thank God, I’m recovering. I worked for 2 weeks and got sick. What the heck. I am weaker than I think.

My supervisor a.k.a my boss was away since last week. He’s coming back today. Everyone in my department is getting edgy and I guess there’ll be a few meetings later on today. This is the sign for a delay for lunch today. Whenever he’s here, I’ll be late for lunch. He is good in the sense that he has high expectation to things and people around him but bad in the sense that he pressurizes everyone around him. Undeniably, he’s a very capable person. All in all, he’s not as easy as everyone thinks. I salute him!

Yesterday, I drove all the way back from KL Sentral to Kelana Jaya. I haven’t mentioned, have I?

I stay with my sister in Kelana Jaya and will do so for the remaining days of my internship. So, I shifted my things, my cars, and myself from Bangi to Kelana Jaya. Since the first day of my internship, my sister trained me to memorize the roads and be brave enough to drive to and fro my workplace. Coincidentally, my sister and I work in the same big building. So, we drive to work together, have lunch together and go home together after work everyday. I see her 24-7 and I am a bit bored with her face.

*kidding*

Actually, I should be more than grateful for having my sister to babysit me for 2 months. She covers all my expenses and provides me accommodation and teaches me some lessons that I can’t get elsewhere.

Anyway, back to my story. My sister had dinner with her friend last night and I had to drive all the way back to Kelana Jaya alone. She was worried sick that I couldn’t drive back alone. I am the worst and reckless driver, in her opinion. Believe me, I get scolding from her every time I drive and I feel tension whenever I have her to sit beside me when I drive.

She was worried to death and her facial expression when she was seeing me off at car park yesterday evening, wow! She was like a mom sending her child off to school on the first day of kindergarten. Sshhh… can’t let her know. After all, her motive was good, she was worried. To be frank, my mom had even more faith in me than she did. I’ll always be a kid to them no matter how mature I am.

Gotta go back to work. An engineer in my department gave me an assignment yesterday and I’m yet to complete it. Tension!!!!

first week of my internship

So, it has been a week since I started my internship. Everyone there is super nice and friendly. Whenever I ask a question, I’ll get an answer, sometimes, with some additional knowledge from the question that I asked. I’m so glad that I got my internship in UMW. Even my supervisor is nice although he’s a bit cool, that kind of person who seldom talks. But it’s ok! I have my own cubicle, I can access to the internet and the internet is kinda fast. Hehe.

On the fourth day of my internship, I was asked by my supervisor a.k.a manager of the equipment department to join a meeting to discuss about the requirements in a tender. I was allowed to give a few comments and asked questions. I was given an opportunity to do trial run with my supervisor, engineers and OL on a new software/management system in the company. I was so happy that I was given a lot of chances to learn and ask. Who said internship is no fun? Who said I will kena bully during my internship? Not true at all. Other than that, my supervisor and also another engineer told me to find manufacturer and supplier for some equipment. I feel so useful now. haha. I did say that I felt useless on my first day of internship. But I guess, this happened to almost every freshie in a company. So, I’m looking forward to learn more in this company. Hehe…

news of the decade

As promised a month ago, I would write a post about news of the decade. So here it is…

Actually, it’s not something big but I’m just making a big fuss of it coz I think it’s something imperative, especially to those who come from JKKP UKM.

I was having class with Dr. Siti Kathom the other day, with other coursemates.

Dr was lecturing all the way and suddenly, she came up with language issue. Most of us know that bahasa Malaysia is the national language in Malaysia and also the mother tongue for the malays. Since we were young, we learned all sorts of subjects in bahasa Malaysia. But before our former PM resigned, he made a new policy i.e. to teach maths and sciences subjects in English. My batch was the first batch to receive maths and sciences lessons in English since form 4, if I’m not mistaken. Since then, I’ve been learning almost everything in English except for history, moral and some other subjects. Learning everything in English means all the exams are conducted in English as well.

I still remember that most of my lecturers in Matriculation were having hard times adapting themselves to teach in English. But they somehow manage to get through and I would say that they did quite a great job.

The same happened when I entered UKM. My batch was the first batch to learn all the subjects in English except for Tamadun Islam and some other trivial subjects. In fact, my department was the only department to learn all the major subjects in English. I would like to admit that I was quite lucky to be able to learn everything in English. I’m that kind of person who would prefer to read books and does references using internationally written reference books, those McGraw-Hill books, Wiley and etc. International book are all written in English. Thus, it’s hassle free for me to read those international books, even making preparations for exams.

Undeniably, I prefer and love to learn everything in English, as this is the situation that all of us will meet when we go to work in the future. Even during my internship now, we use English to communicate, paper works, making calls, and during meetings. We cannot deny the importance of English in everyday life.

I was quite disappointed when I was still a freshman in uni, some of the lecturers still refused to translate the notes into English. Some even said that, language is not a problem. Well, it’s not true at all! Language is a MAJOR problem, it’s a BIG problem. If language is not a problem, why would the government repeatedly insist the importance of bahasa Malaysia and repeatedly encourage us to speak in bahasa Malaysia. With all the campaigns to enforce the usage of bahasa Malaysia in our daily lives and with the mindset: hilang bahasa Malaysia, hilanglah identiti sebagai orang Malaysia. Well, this is not the main point of my story.

Dr. Siti Kathom told us the other day that our thesis must be written in Bahasa Malaysia. I was very shocked to get this information. I was furious as well.

After 4 years of education in English, our thesis (passport to graduate) must be written in bahasa malaysia. This is so absurd. What the heck! If we were to write our thesis in bahasa Malaysia, why do they change all the teaching to English in the first place???!!! This is so not fair to all the students. Some even told me that, as long as I’m in UKM, as long as I’m a Malaysian, I can never run away from bahasa Malaysia. I don’t deny my identity as a Malaysian, and I don’t hate bahasa Malaysia or whatsoever. If we were to do our final project, which is the compilation of all our knowledge since 1^st year to 4^th year in bahasa Malaysia, why do all the lecturers trouble themselves trying to adapt themselves to teach in English. What’s the point of tormenting themselves and torturing the students. This is a no-win situation.

The way Dr Siti Kathom told us, it seems to be the final decision. I am so dissatisfied. I think everything is so ridiculous. It seems like I don’t have a chance to even disagree or object this decision. It seems like I can’t complain. Even if I want to complain, who should I complain to?? I thought this is a democratic country and now I can’t even have a say. I can’t even defend myself. What the heck!

life after exams

yay! finally i'm back. phew....my house's modem was spoilt and i couldn't online for almost 2 weeks. for those who online almost everyday, it's tormenting not to online for even a day. but it was a good thing not to be able to online for the past 2 weeks as i was having my final exams.

well, how was the exam? did i answer well? emmm...i would say that it's not easy at all but somehow, i managed to survive and i was glad i did. all in all, i'm still in one piece, mou chuen mou lan la...lol.

during my exam, my simpleton housemate accidentally scratched my car with her bike. i thought it was nothing serious so i didn't care much about it until i checked my car. dammit, the scratch was quite long and significant. of course i demanded her to compensate as i want to repair the defect part. it was not dented or anything, it was just that i didn't want my car to look cacat. that's all. so, i kindly looked for a mechanic, bargained with the mechanic to get a cheap price to fix my car and finally i got quite a good offer, RM 150, to fix the cacat part and repaint the whole front bumper. then i told the bitch to pay me RM 150 first. but mana tau, she couldn't afford the 150 and bargained with me. i told her to just give me RM 100 and i'll pay for the rest and she refused. to be fair, i told her to gimme RM 75 but she said it's not that expensive and she said she already found a mechanic and it's only about RM 50. then i said fine and asked her to gimme that RM 50. but she didn't pay me that time as she didn't have 50 with her and promised to give me the next day. mana tau, the next day, she disappeared for the whole day and came back only in the middle of the night. she saw me but she pretended not to see me. then i thought of giving her another day lar...then, the next day, she saw me but she pretended nothing happened again. so, i sms-ed her and told her to pay me asap. out of sudden, she told me to sign an agreement before she could pay me anything. i was furious and rushed to her room and talked to her. within 1 minutes, i raised my voice towards her. she was absurd. she was an idiot. she said she won't pay me anything until i sign the agreement. fine, finally, i told her that i don't want her damn money and asked her to leave me alone. later, after the argument, she sms-ed me and hope that we could remain as friend. i sms-ed her back and said: i don't want your damn money. can't you understand english? i ask you to compensate you bising, i don't want your money also you bising. you got nothing to do ar.
from that time onwards, i haven't talked to her and even looked at her. she just doesn't deserve my respect. but i'm much more composed now. i must admit that her case really distracted me and i couldn't concentrate in my studies for a few days. anyhow...

today is my first day of training. i came in at 8 this morning and i was walking around since then until i got to borrow this notebook from one of the managers here and renewed my blog and checked my mails =)
i was bored to death and i walked until there were blisters on my toes. sad sad sad. don't feel like coming in to work tomorrow. everyone was so busy and i was so free, i felt useless and useless...
hope i can get something to work on tomorrow. even photocopy job or help some filing stuffs. sigh sigh sigh. my supervisor went off already and i am with my colleagues now. i meant i am with my collegues, sitting in different cubicles and do different things. they are busy and i am blogging and seeing around.
there's a guy here from UTP and he started his internship since last december and he told me he did almost the same thing everyday. i was a bit shocked.
my supervisor told me that he could bring me to site in terengganu but the biggest problem is that i'm a girl. sad. i heard that everyone on site is guy. but i couldn't believe that it's a problem because i'm a girl.

not looking forward to tomorrow at all!
